The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (the Sanitation Districts) manage a wastewater system that serves over 5 million people. The system provides wastewater conveyance, treatment and reclaimed water management. We are committed to protecting public health, the environment and precious water resources. The Clearwater Program will produce a new Facilities Plan for the Joint Outfall System in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. The plan will ensure the continuation of the wastewater system's high level of service, provide the ability to serve our growing population, and evaluate aging infrastructure. As a part of the new Facilities Plan, the need for a new tunnel and ocean outfall to convey effluent from the Districts' largest treatment plant to the ocean will be studied and evaluated. The Clearwater Program will benefit residents and businesses in 73 cities, including portions of the City of Los Angeles, and unincorporated areas of the county - all part of the Sanitation Districts' Joint Outfall System. Public involvement in the Clearwater Program is very important and we invite your active participation.
